Donaghys Winchline UHM 12-Strand Dyneema Rope
The Donaghys Winchline UHM 12-Strand Braid is an exceptionally strong, lightweight and low-stretch rope designed for demanding marine, winching, towing and high-load applications.
Manufactured from Ultra High Molecular Weight Polyethylene (UHMPE) fibre, Winchline delivers exceptional strength from a remarkably small rope diameter. Its 12-strand braided construction provides excellent flexibility and spliceability, making it ideal for custom loops, winch lines, strops, towing systems and high-load marine rigging.
Donaghys Winchline combines very low stretch, excellent UV resistance and high abrasion resistance with the advantage of being considerably lighter and easier to handle than equivalent-strength steel wire rope.
The rope is treated with Donaghys Armorcoat, providing increased resistance to both internal and external abrasion. It also has minimal water absorption and floats, making it particularly well suited to demanding marine applications.
Available in multiple diameters and sold by the metre, Donaghys Winchline allows you to select exactly the length required for your boat, trailer winch, yacht rigging or custom high-strength rope application.

Important: Published figures are breaking strengths, not safe working loads. Appropriate safety factors must be applied according to the application. Spliced breaking strength can also be lower than the published unspliced strength.
Exceptional Strength-to-Weight Ratio
One of the major advantages of Donaghys Winchline is the enormous strength available from relatively small rope diameters.
For example:
- 2mm – 940kg breaking strength
- 3mm – 1400kg breaking strength
- 4mm – 2400kg breaking strength
- 5mm – 3400kg breaking strength
- 6mm – 4800kg breaking strength
This makes Winchline an excellent choice where conventional rope would need to be considerably larger or where steel wire rope would otherwise be used.
Donaghys Armorcoat Protection
Donaghys Winchline is treated with Armorcoat, helping improve resistance to abrasion and wear.
This is particularly important in winching and marine applications where the rope may repeatedly pass around drums, rollers, fairleads or other hardware.
The coating helps protect the individual fibres while maintaining the rope's flexibility and handling characteristics.
Low Stretch
The UHMPE construction provides very low elongation under load.
This makes Winchline particularly useful where precise load control and minimal rope movement are important, including:
- Winching
- High-load marine rigging
- Towing
- Yacht control systems
- Lashings
- Custom strops
Lightweight Alternative to Steel Wire Rope
Donaghys Winchline can provide a lightweight alternative to conventional steel wire rope in appropriately engineered applications.
Compared with steel wire, synthetic UHMPE rope provides several practical advantages:
- Much lower weight
- Easier handling
- No rusty steel strands
- No sharp wire splinters
- Floats
- Easier to splice
- Very low stretch
- High strength
- Significantly reduced recoil if failure occurs
This makes it particularly attractive for boat trailer winches and other hand-operated winching applications.
Ideal for Boat Trailer Winches
Donaghys Winchline is an excellent option for replacing traditional steel cable on compatible boat trailer winches.
Its lightweight construction makes the line easier to handle when launching and retrieving your boat, while the absence of broken steel strands makes handling more comfortable.
Its high breaking strength means relatively small diameters can handle substantial loads.
Always ensure the selected diameter, breaking strength, winch drum, fairlead and attachment method are suitable for the vessel and expected loads.
