How the AutoAnchor Sensor & Magnet Kit Works

An electronic anchor rode counter uses a sensor and magnet to detect rotation of the anchor winch chainwheel.

As the chainwheel rotates, the magnet passes the sensor, generating signals that the compatible AutoAnchor system uses to calculate the amount of anchor rode moving through the windlass.

The controller uses these signals together with its programmed calibration settings to display the amount of chain or rope deployed.

The sensor and magnet are essential components of this measuring system.

If the sensor is damaged, incorrectly positioned or unable to detect the magnet, the AutoAnchor controller may stop counting correctly.

Includes Two Magnet Sizes

The AutoAnchor kit includes two different magnet sizes to accommodate compatible installation arrangements.

6mm × 4mm Magnet

This smaller magnet is commonly used for compatible all-chain counting arrangements, with the magnet installed in the chainwheel according to the relevant AutoAnchor instructions.

10mm × 8mm Magnet

This larger magnet is used for compatible rope-and-chain counting arrangements and other installations specified by AutoAnchor.

Important: The correct magnet depends on the windlass design, AutoAnchor model and sensor position. The two magnets are not universally interchangeable.

Grey AutoAnchor Sensor with Plug

The kit includes a grey AutoAnchor sensor fitted with a plug connection.

The sensor is designed to detect the magnet as the chainwheel rotates.

Correct sensor positioning is essential for reliable operation.

The manufacturer's installation instructions specify different permissible sensor-to-magnet gaps depending on the magnet size and windlass configuration.

For example, some compatible chain-only installations specify:

• 6 × 4mm magnet: 3–20mm sensor gap

• 10 × 8mm magnet: 3–40mm sensor gap

These are installation-specific examples, not universal settings. Follow the instructions for your exact AutoAnchor controller and windlass.

Suitable for Compatible Anchor Winch Systems

The AutoAnchor kit is intended for use with compatible AutoAnchor electronic rode-counting systems.

AutoAnchor's parts catalogue lists this standard kit for models other than the AA500C.

However, compatibility also depends on the windlass arrangement, chainwheel, sensor mounting position and wiring connections.
